The Artists of the High Renaissance Essay -- Visual Arts Paintings Art
The Artists of the High Renaissance High Renaissance, that period of art at the beginning of the sixteenth century, has been referred to as one of the great explosions of artistic and creative genius in history. Most notable it seems, for producing three of the greatest artists in history: Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, and Raphael, the High Renaissance was referred to as such not only because it was a period of great and high art, but equally so, because it was essentially the culmination of the cycle of art which preceded it, known as the Early Renaissance. ââ¬Å"Renaissanceâ⬠stems from the French verb ââ¬Å"naitre,â⬠meaning ââ¬Å"to be bornâ⬠. Thus, the Renaissance would forever be known as the ââ¬Å"rebirthâ⬠of critical artistic thoughts and ideals. Emerging from the much more gothic and religious period that came before, the Renaissance would most certainly prove to be one of the most enlightened periods in art and thought that history would ever see. Italian High Renaissance artists achieved ideal of harmony and balance comparable with the works of ancient Greece or Rome. Renaissance Classicism was a form of art that removed the extraneous detail and showed the world as it was. Forms, colors and proportions, light and shade effects, spatial harmony, composition, perspective, anatomy - all are handled with total control and a level of accomplishment for which there are no real precedents. The High Renaissance included such great artists as Bacchiacca, the painter of Ev...

Plant Imagery Throughout the Scarlet Letter
Honors American Lit. B The Scarlet Letter Pathway Paper ââ¬â 694 wordsApril 23, 2013 Throughout The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne uses vegetation imagery in correlation with his ideas about sinful nature and god. When describing the prison in the very beginning of the novel, Hawthorne writes, ââ¬Å"a grass-plot, much overgrown withâ⬠¦ such unsightly vegetation, which evidently found something congenial in the soil that had so early borne the black flower of civilized society, a prisonâ⬠(45-46).Hawthorne uses the imagery of a black flower to depict the sinful nature of humans as it was inevitable that even in this new flourishing society the people there saw the need to build a prison. This vivid image also relates to the Puritanââ¬â¢s harsh view on sin in the community. Throughout the novel Hawthorne frequently criticizes the Puritan society, this being another example, ââ¬Å"but the proprietor appeared already to have relinquished, as hopeless, the effort to perpetuate on this side of the Atlantic, in a hard soil and amid the close struggle for subsistence, the native English taste for ornamental gardeningâ⬠(97).The description of the Governorââ¬â¢s ornamental garden shows the garden failing, as if the person caring for it had given up and realized that it was impossible to have the ornamental garden in Boston the way it was in England. This parallels Hawthorneââ¬â¢s beliefs about Puritan society in that their abstruse beliefs would not sustain in the new world they were creating, for god is depicted through nature demonstrating how Hawthorne feels god is looking down on the materialistic and frivolous ways of the Puritans.Later in the novel Chillingworth says, ââ¬Å"wherefore not, since all the powers of nature call so earnestly for the confession of sin, that these black weeds have sprung up out of a buried heart, to make manifest an unspoken crime? â⬠(119). Nature is being associated with god in this passage theref ore Hawthorne is saying that god calls for the confession of sin and goes on to say that god disapproves of a person that does not confess, thus the black weeds, mirroring sin, grow on the graves of those who cling to secrets. This idea is also repeated later in the novel, ââ¬Å"and all this time, perchance, when poor Mr. Dimmesdale was thinking of his grave, he questioned with himself whether the grass would ever grow on it, because an accursed thing must there be buried! â⬠(130). Sin is again depicted as lifelessness in this passage, for Dimmesdale has sinned, and not confessed; therefore he is concerned that god will reject him. Hawthorne clearly writes with a style of dark romanticism epitomized through his description of sin in the beginning of the novel as inexorable in every society.Hawthorne also reflects his religious views and those of his times period in the way he sees god and nature as one, similar to the ideas of Pantheism, a belief in the manifestation of god th rough nature. Hawthorne frequently links god to nature as seen when Hester calls to nature, as if calling to god, for forgiveness, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Thou shalt forgive me! ââ¬â¢ cried Hester, flinging herself on the fallen leaves beside himâ⬠(175). While nature symbolizes sin, it also symbolizes the comforting and forgiving appearance of god.In relation to the bible, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the yellow leaves will show no vestige of the white manââ¬â¢s treadâ⬠(178), the yellow leaves reference the scripture Isaiah 43:25, which reads, ââ¬Å"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no moreâ⬠displaying the tie between nature and god both covering and forgetting sins; also tying into Hawthorneââ¬â¢s religious perspective in his writing. Nathaniel Hawthorne articulates his views on sin and god through his use of vegetation imagery throughout the scarlet letter; he continually uses dead and ââ¬Å"blackâ⬠imagery to al lude to sin and secrets. His use of dead vegetation implies that he believes confession is the relief of the burden of sin and the necessary action to obtain godââ¬â¢s approval and forgiveness. Hawthorne also represents godââ¬â¢s forgiveness through plant imagery; connecting godââ¬â¢s washing away of sin to the forest and nature washing away of sin. Fundamentally Hawthorne uses vegetation to convey his ideas on divinity and human sinful nature in The Scarlet Letter.

Digital Nation
Social media, handheld devices and the Internet have greatly improved the quality of life in the 21st Century. This is a good time to be alive because of all the modern forms of communication. This is the statement which I think is correct and is the main theme of the documentary ââ¬Å"Digital Nation: Live on the Virtual Frontier. â⬠The world is now in the age of information and highly advanced learning ââ¬â specifically in the field of science and technology. It can practically be felt by almost all people in most parts of the world as the globe has become smaller and more manageable, so to speak.Communication from opposite sides of the planet ââ¬â which was only possible through long distance voice calls less than two decades ago ââ¬â can now happen in the blink of an eye through chat and e-mails. Education has become more advanced, information has become more readily accessible, and learning has become less rigid. Offices have now adopted new technology, some ev en setting up their virtual offices online without necessarily reporting to a regular office to work.Even military combat ââ¬â which some years ago entailed much casualties ââ¬â has become less risky, thanks to virtual technology. As shown in the said video, most kids these days are already trained on the computer shortly after they begin to read and write. This means that the children of today will be more equipped with technological knowledge when they reach our age. It is just amazing what the video shows where very young children can already create blogs, manipulate videos and do other high-tech stuff on the computer. This confirms what one of the interviewees in the video said that these kids are the natives in this technology, and we are mere immigrants. Some of the things they know were not taught to them but they instinctively knew how to feel their way into this environment which they readily adapted to in an effortless manner. Therefore, at the rate the standard of education is going, it is expected that the world will be more inclined to become a more technologically-dependent world in the near future. As of now, most people cannot function normally anymore without their being wired to their gadgets and/or not being online. Five or ten years ago, this was not a common scenario as there were lesser technological gadgets, devices and contraptions available, but things have changed a lot since then. These days, students at the M. I. T. who are supposed to be the most intelligent students in the U. S. have become a distracted bunch as they claim to be multi-taskers but fail at all aspects of the test given to them.Still, there is hope for these kids as they still have the academic capabilities within them ââ¬â all they need is just a little adjustment from the distractions affecting them so they can be more focused on their tasks. The virtual world has also given most offices the capacity to allow their employees to work on telecommute. This m eans lesser effort and expenses for the worker to go to his/her regular job and makes work more efficient and cost-effective. This set-up would not have been possible a decade ago since work then meant reporting to the office and actual presence was needed for the 8-hour job.Furthermore, the prevalence of online jobs on the internet confirms this proclivity towards more virtual employment in the offing as the virtual environment becomes a more familiar venue for human activity. In conclusion, there are numerous advantages which have been brought about by the so-called Age of Technology, and these far outweigh the disadvantages like addiction to internet gaming, gambling and other similar problems. The future is certainly worth-anticipating as current advances in technology are already mind-blowing, hence, a higher degree of advancement will be most likely indescribable.

EMERGENCY NURSING DISCUSSION 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
EMERGENCY NURSING DISCUSSION 3 - Essay Example Introduction of such a rule has several implications, both positive and negative, both of which will be discussed in this essay. The main positive outcome of this rule is formal addressing of the established "access block"of eight hours, which was a burden on the emergency departments and had adverse impact on the care of the patient. Thus, the new "access block" standard is four hours and this is enforced with high level of compliance, thereby solving the access block problem. Implementation of the rule forces hospital administrations to take responsibility for the access block problem. Also, ramifications pertaining to patient flow is beyond only ED problem and the hospital gets involved in it. Another major advantage of this rule is that it forces the staff to assess and manage patients at an early stage, thus enhancing the role of clinical judgment, without merely depending on laboratory diagnosis (Cadogan, 2009). The four hour rule has some negative effects too. It causes increased stress because of increased number of after hour shifts, 24- hour emergency consultant cover and increase in weekend shifts. Such stress, without punitive penalties can lead to gaming of figures, facts and flow of patients. The stress can also cause reduction in the standard of care delivered in the emergency room. Also, the autonomy of the emergency physician can get denuded which can in turn impact the patients negatively. The rule increases the propensity for adverse patient outcomes and here are high chances for the patients to get discharged early without a proper diagnosis. Some experts opine that excellence in patient flow will be rewarded than appropriate patient care (Cadogan,

Make up assignemt Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Make up assignemt - Essay Example Jeffersonââ¬â¢s choice of the particular words used in the declaration was to express a shared understanding of ââ¬Å"the American mind. ââ¬Å"He showed what amounted to a collective political creed by stating that certain propositions were ââ¬Å"self-evidentâ⬠truths. The Declaration of Independence states that among the ââ¬Å"truthsâ⬠that Americans hold to be ââ¬Å"self-evidentâ⬠is ââ¬Å"all Men are created equally.â⬠(Jefferson,1). This statement related to all people regardless of their gender, occupation or color. It means that we are either created equally by birth or naturally political equals; therefore, no one is by birth a subject of a ruler or is automatically the ruler of others. Political equality thus does not define human equality. We are all created moral equals, and we are of equal value and worth in the eyes of the creator. Jefferson stated, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦all Men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights...â⬠(Jefferson,1). This statement provides evidence that the declaration was a precursor to the bill of rights. Inalienable rights are those that cannot be given up even if there was an alternative to it. According to the concept of inalienable rights section in the Declaration of Independence liberty, life and pursuit of happiness is a right. The existence of unalienable rights does not mean that a person cannot be subjected to attacks, false imprisonments and other forms of oppression. Unalienable rights mean that such rights are not morally justifiable, and therefore we have a ground for moral

Artistic Area Changing From 19th Century to 20th Century Essay
Artistic Area Changing From 19th Century to 20th Century - Essay Example During this era, Paris was reconstructed which can be termed as a symbol of a world of freshness in the field of art. This city acted as a cultural capital offering great chances to people who were interested in the field of art. Art training institutions came up and artists were able to travel all round Europe to widen their knowledge and ideas. Consequently, artists were able to reflect their own feelings and emotions through art such as poetry (Yanli 54). With the decline of the enlightenment age, philosophers and poets started to question the ideals of enlightenment such as science, rationality and logic. At this point, poets sought to find out if these ideas were good enough for mankind (Barrette 60). They did this through Romanticism and Idealism, which revolutionized their way of thinking completely. The two movements existed concurrently and were characterized by the nature of poets putting emotions and feelings before reason. The main aim of romanticism and idealism movement s was for artists to express what they felt inside regardless of the rational perspective of those feelings. This was mostly done in the expression of romantic feelings. The romantic period lasted approximately 25 years, and is still said to be the greatest movement in the field of literature. Some of the poems at this time included: A Brother in Need by Henrik Ibsen, The Dole of the Kingââ¬â¢s Daughter by Oscar Wilde and The Grave and the Rose by Victor Hugo (Monius 1406). A critical study of the three poems depicts a social satire expressing the oppression that existed in the field of love. Tillmann and Dowling (628) assert that romantic poets made nature to be central in majority of their works, where they used it metaphorically to represent human relations to one another. These poems expressed passion indirectly, hence readers were expected to imagine and read them with an open mind. The message in these poems was clear as it openly portrayed the heart to be central in our li ves. As a result, the way we relate with nature and other people is determined by our hearts, and it reflects our lives. Through these poems, the ego-centric nature of man is put forth, where people were ready to do anything to have what their hearts desired (Barrette 79). This perspective was later taken over by the rational perspective as poets changed their poetic styles. The 20th Century Artistic thought during the 20th century was highly influenced by science as it dictated almost every aspect of man (Yanli 55). At this time, nuclear weapons were being used during war, making people to adopt new ways of looking at life. The two major literary criticisms of this time were: modernism which was later followed by post-modernism. After the enlightenment era, the educated elite gained confidence within themselves as they were able to explain nature and science. However, the industrial revolution brought about its own evils, creating a feeling of resentment within poets, which was exp ressed through modernism (Tillmann and Dowling, 629). The social lives of people were affected with the subsequent urbanization, while the field of politics was marked by diverse views of capitalism and communism. According to Sacvan (574), during this era, American poets had dominated the field of poetry as they sought to give explanations to what was happening around the world. Some of the poems composed during this time include: Allen Ginsbergââ¬â¢
